You are going to create a domain-specific modeling tool and you wonder how users will edit and visualize the models: textually with a dedicated syntax and a rich textual editor? or graphically with diagrams drawn with a palette and smart tools? Both approaches are interesting and can be used complementary: While text is able to carry more detailed information, a diagram highlights the relationship between elements much better. In the end, a good tool should combine both, and use each notation where it suits best. Written by TypeFox & Obeo, this white paper explains the benefits of each approach. Then, it presents Eclipse Xtext and Eclipse Sirius, two open-source frameworks for the development of textual and graphical model editors. And finally, find out two detailed use-cases where these two technologies can be integrated in the same modeling workbench. Download the white paper.   This subject was presented at EclipseCon Europe & SiriusCon this ye...

From October 24th to 26th, we will have the pleasure to attend once again EclipseCon Europe in Ludwigsburg, Germany!     This main event for the Eclipse community is the opportunity to discover and share the latest innovations about this open source platform. This year, Obeo will be well represented with 6 of its members being in Germany to present their technologies’ features. Most of them are committers on several Eclipse projects (among which Sirius, EMF Compare, Acceleo, Ecore Tools…).   As we can see on the program, EclipseCon Europe 2017 includes many attractive talks. Here are those presented by Obeo: All about UX in Sirius, at Bürgersaal 2, on Tuesday 24th, from 14:30 to 15:05, by Mélanie Bats (Obeo) & Stéphane Bégaudeau (Obeo) Integrating Xtext and Sirius: Strategies and Pitfalls, at the Theater, on Wednesday 25th, from 12:00 to 12:35, by Cédric Brun (Obeo) & Jan Koehnlein (TypeFox) Live Collaboration on Graphical Models: Sirius Integrat...
User Spotlight - Mélanie Bats   What do you do? I work as a software developer at Obeo. In my daily work, I mainly focus on the development of modeling tools with Sirius like UML Designer. I am also involved in several research projects to work on the future of modeling tools, such as the Gemoc project. Finally, I participate in conferences and recently started publishing blog posts to promote Sirius and other tools we are developing at Obeo. Read more on Eclipse Newsletter April 2015...

Come to this Sirius roadshow event and find out how to create an efficient graphical tool to describe your design choices and define your architecture. This event is free and open to beginners with Eclipse Modeling technologies and advanced users alike. The day kicks off with Sirius presentations including several real-life case studies from the community. But best of all, in the afternoon you will create your first Sirius prototype under supervision by our team.
